Everytime I enable 3d support and click test my screen blacks out and box locks up so bad that I have to flick the power switch on the back of my box.
This is a fresh install of suse 9.1 pro 32 bit version with all the latest updates and followed the instructions of nvidia to run the YOU nvidia graphics patch update. In the words of leeloo .........prleeze haelp Dual 246 Opterons Nvidia quadro fx 1100 from pny Tyan Thunder K8W 2885s mobo |

If you installed the nVidia drivers correctly, there is no need to enable the 3D acceleration as it's already done automatically. Try doing whatever you were doing without clicking 3D Enable.

This is what I have done.
1. Pop in suse dvd and install fresh 2. During install allow it to update itself online 3. Once im in , go to YOU and update the nvidia graphics patch After that 3d support is still not on and it blacks out if I enable and test. What am I suppose to do? I am confused. |

I personally like to install the drivers myself using the ones off of Nvidia's web site. I am actually able to check off Enable 3d using this method.

here are the instructions on how to do it manually
1) Kernel sources must be installed and configured. Usually this means installing the 'kernel-source' package with YaST2. Update it - if not already done - via YaST2 Online Update (YOU) and configure it then with the following commands: cd /usr/src/linux make cloneconfig make prepare-all (only for kernel-source >= 2.6.5-7.75) 2) Use the nvidia installer for 1.0-6106. a.) kernel-source < 2.6.5-7.75 sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6106-pkg1.run b.) kernel-source >= 2.6.5-7.75 sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6106-pkg1.run --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux 3) Configure XFree86 with sax2 -m 0=nvidia (0 is a digit, not a letter!) NOTE: There is no need to try to enable 3D support. It's already enabled, when the nvidia driver is running. |

Now this is where the confusion begins.
1. What does it mean kernel sources must be installed and configured? 2. I have kernel greater than 2.6.5-7.75. How do i enter all that information after the sh command for the run file and where do i get it from? (--kernel ....etc) 3. Where is Xfree86 and how do i configure with sax2? |

Hahaha, looks like me and you are on the same page:
http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/in...showtopic=2730 I'm going to merge the topics together, if that's okay with you.

"Kernel-Souces Must Be Installed & Configured" - means that you much install your kernel-souces.
Go to YaST, search and installed "kernel-souce", if that kernel-souce doesn't match your current kernel than you must install it online though YaST2 Online Update. |

For XFree86, You can find the config file under /etc/X11/XF86Config. To run Sax2, either on a command line as root type Sax2 or go into Yast -> Hardware -> Graphics and configure it through there.
I did actually have to Click the enable 3d box when I set up looking glass. I don't know why I had to be I was glad it worked at least. |
