Here is my current IDE cable setup:

IDE port 1 >>>>>>> 150gig HDD (master) >>>> DVD burner (slave on same IDE cable)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now when I add my new harddrive (2nd 150gig) with this setup:

IDE port 1 >>>>>>> 150gig HDD (master)>>>>>> 150gig #2 HDD (Slave)
IDE port 2 >>>>> DVD burner (single master)

With the 2nd setup Suse bootloader won't boot. lilo starts to load, and then just dies. If I move the DVD burner back as a slave to the master harddrive on IDE #1 it boots normally. I'm baffled.....

Your drive order probably changes when moving the DVD from Master/Slave. You would need to have /boot/grub/menu.lst and fstab point to the correct drive/partitions. Take a look at your /boot/grub/device.map

Replug the IDE2 DVD as secondary. Inspect /etc/fstab.

It has worked for me in the past.

Hardware diddles are such a pain.
