I got a SUSE Enterprise Linux Desktop 10 operating system on the laptop I got, and I'd like to install a different operating system. Apparently I need a specific install CD or repair CD or whatever, which should have been shipped with my laptop, but wasn't. And they're out of them for the time being. Now, is there any way for me to remove this before they get and ship a new CD to me, or am I stuck for the time being?

I am not sure that I understand your question. If all you want to do is remove SUSE, then technically you don't need anything, although you will definitely want something else to put on there.
In other words: you don't need a SUSE cd to remove a SUSE installation. Your Windows/whatever cd that has what you want should reformat the partition for you during install. |

Hm... that's what I told the tech support guy, but he said SUSE is different. Was he lying to get me off the phone? Sure hope not or I'm gonna get all kinds of pissed...

The one thing you need to keep in mind is that usually (say, with laptops with Windows pre-installed on them) if you remove the pre-installed OS, you void the warranty. There might also be a recovery partition or something that he is trying to make sure you don't delete. If you are going to do it yourself, then you really need to know what you are doing. But if you do, I can't think of any reason that you need to wait on the cd. Did he give you a reason? |
