I've finished loading openSUSE 10.3 and everything amazingly works, not to say there is something always wrong with the operating system it's usually me, so I'm all happy until I got to shutdown the machine and it blanks the screen then the music loops and the machine hangs up. So I rebooted using the switch on the front of the computer, and when I got in it worked fine then as I logged out it hung up again. So I went back in and logged in as me then read some stuff got a few ideas thought I would control-alt-backspace to log in as root and went to a black screen and froze.

 Anyone have any solution? The system runs fine except I'm learning how to program and I need to boot from time to time and log in as root to install some things or do administrative stuff. This is my machine specs -

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.46
4 GB OCZ Ram
openSUSE 10.3 - Gnome
Radeon 3870 HD X2 PCI eXpress

p.s. if I can get past this I will load this on my laptop and then really be rock'n !!!!

I have found that a Ctrl-C or Ctrl-D will give a prompt after Ctrl-Alt-Backspace if one does not appear within a reasonable time; something about line or process termination.
