Hello experts,
After some time testing several flavors [fedora, ubuntu, xubuntu..] i find Suse to be the best for my needs and use as a home server. These installs have been easy since i was only using a single drive for testing. Im using two drives for my server; 80Gig for OS 160Gig for storage [important data will be backed up to tape] Im using the Live CD. Can you please explain how to partition this properly so i can create share folders on the large drive. Thanks, granade |

Here's one way: If the 80Gb drive is the first drive (first as seen by the BIOS) then the installer should suggest to put three partitions on it, namely root (/) home (/home) and the swap partition. You could go with that. When it's all over you could then use the drive partitioner in Yast to mount the 120Gb drive as "storage" at the location /storage (or whatever) and share that directory (/storage), which is effectively sharing the whole drive. Or if you need different types of shares, those can easily be constructed under the directory /storage and shared individually. That way no decisions or fancy footwork are required during the installation. Swerdna |

No fancy footwork was required following your instructions. I successfully created the /Data partition and dont want to share the "entire" drive; only individual folders as required. My attempt at creating a folder gives the following error: Access denied to /Data New Folder I haven not been able to find where to change the permissions that will allow me to create shares and place permissions on those shares. Thanks granade |

chown -R granade:users /Data Swerdna PS you could do this by navigating there in a file manager like Konqueror or Nautilus -- but it takes too long to explain and is inherently more difficult. |
