hello!

I have an old "SIEMENS scenic 750" laptop, and I'd like to put linux on it. I tried Suse 10.3, but I think the laptop is too old for it. Someone told me 'Suse linux 7.0' was the only solution for my notebook, but can anyone tell me where I can find this version of SUSE? If not, what do you think which linux I can run on my laptop (Ubuntu, kubuntu and xubuntu doesn't work)
I'm going to Norway next year, and I'd really like to use this laptop there, so if anyone thinks he or she could help me, just do it!

Thanks a lot
Joris

Sorry for my english, I'm from Belgium (who is Belgium?)

Please don't double post.

Even if an old distro of SUSE could run on it, I would not recommend that because 1. the software will be old and have security issues, and 2. you will not be able to use recent software because the libraries are too old, etc.

You don't say how much RAM is on it. A search shows that it starts at 64MB standard and goes to 256MB. If you are able to cheaply, try to expand the RAM to the max, it will make a real difference.

Then get one of those small distros like Puppy, DSL, AntiX, Slitaz, etc to install on it. Hope you have a CDROM at least.

Bleh, don't know why I typed KDE when I meant DSL, must have KDE on the brain from playing with 11RC1.

I still have my old copy of SUSE-7.3 lying around (somewhere), but I would never install it on a PC. Not even on an old PC. I agree with ken_Yyap. Further to ken_yap's suggestions, another light weight linux is Tinyme.

It was recently mentioned in distrowatch as having an update ...

Web site is here:

... out of curiosity I downloaded and played with it a bit. It is based on PCLinuxOS, which is fairly popular. As long is one is familiar with apt-get or synaptic (package manager) then it is pretty easy to customize with one's favourite apps, although that in turn could bloat one's installation.

The min specs are here:

Try DSL (D a m Small Linux). If you find SuSE 6.0 it won't be supported anymore. In other words you won't find security updates for it.
