The console does not echo what you are typing in the password field. You are typing, you just don't see what you are typing. It works that way on purpose.
If you are not getting to a graphical login screen then you are probably having video driver issues. You should be booting to a pretty green screen with picture of a lizard named Geeko on it.
When you get to the login screen, type in your user name, the one you configured when you installed Suse, Press ENTER or RETURN. Type in your password and press ENTER or RETURN. Now type startx and press ENTER or RETURN.
What error messages do you see on your screen?
