Hi, trying to install 10.3. Installation goes well through preperation stages then onto installaion, setting and perform installation. On completion of this the system reboots.

This is where the problem is, I am installing from a DVD and when the computer reboots it goes back to the initial screen on the DVD with the boot from hard disk, installation etc. options.

I have tried the boot from hard disk option and get an error "Unable to load operating system".

Help!!!!!!

What kind of harddrive and what kind of partition layout. Is it IDE or SATA. What are the BIOS settings for the HD. Is it 'Auto' or 'Large'. If you change this you may have to reinstall as any partitions on the disk may become corrupt.

Its an IDE hard drive that is formatted to accept opensuse.

As for the Bios Settings not sure what you mean.

Yep, "Error loading operating system"

I have trawled most of the forums for answers, found a few that do not work.

Managed to get suse up and running after going through intitial setup again and doing a boot from hard disk within the setup menus but whenever I reboot I get the same error message.

I asume your boot loader is GRUB.

Run yast2/system/boot loader and make the OS you want to boot the default.

If that doesn't allow a boot from the IDE HDD get back to us.
