We are currently installing en-mass, SLES10 SP1 systems on a narrow range of hardware platforms (3 or 4 different server types). Recent changes in both hardware, and the method we install has brought up a number of issues that I need some help with. Namely:
1) We now boot from a SUSE CD and use an autoyast on a USB stick that gets pointed to an internal FTP server (SUSE based) that hosts the install files. This basically just saves on installing from media on all systems, and allows us better control on what gets installed (versions, etc.). The problem is that when the systems are installed, the installation source is still set to our internal FTP server. Each system goes out with a pucker SLES10 box set and DVD. How can we get the autoinst.xml to put the DVD instal source in the config. I have even tried cloning a system to create a new xml file with the required settings. When we build a system from that file, the entry for the DVD source is no longer present !!
2) We have tried to do away with the USB sticks and host the autoinst.xml file on the server. Can't get this to work though! Have tried copying the file to the root of the install source. We specify the option of "autoyast=ftp://1.2.3.4/repository/SLES10/autoinst.xml". It just keeps bombing out becasue it cant find the xml file.
3) On two of the larger servers that use RAID, when we carry out an autoinstall, it gets the boot device mixed up in the /boot/grub/menu.lst file and fails to boot.
Sorry for the sudden splat of questions. I didn't save them up - they are all related, so put put your flame throwers away
Many thanks
