Hi,
I have been using openSuSe 10.3 32-bit for about a month now, and am very impressed with it. There is one problem though - if I boot up with no mouse plugged in, the X server fails to start, and stays in text mode. This is a notebook (Dell Inspiron 1520), so it has a touchpad. The touchpad is recognised and usable within the GUI when I boot with a mouse plugged in. I have tried starting X with startx, which first shows the nVidia splash screen, and then gives the following report (back in text mode, first few lines snipped): (EE) PreInit returned NULL for "Mouse[1]" (snip) Synaptics DeviceInit called SynapticsCtrl called. Synaptics DeviceOn called. No core pointer Fatal server error: failed to initialize core devices waiting for X server to begin accepting connections giving up. xinit: Connection reset by peer (errno 104): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error. If I plug the mouse in and run startx, everything starts fine. I am using kernel 2.6.22.17-0.1, graphics are nVidia GeForce 8600M GT, driver version 169.12 Any thoughts? Cheers, Keith |
