I have been having trouble finding information on how to create an image of my XP installation to use in Virtualbox.

I have XP installed on /dev/sda1 and Suse 10.3 on /dev/sda2. I would like to virtualize the already installed XP partition because it took ages to find all the drivers I need for XP.

How can I create a VMDK or VDI image of my XP partition?

That is my setup and I haven't tried this yet. So, why don't you experiment for both of us?

Here is a link to the free VMware converter that will take a physical machine and make a virtual machine from it. I haven't used it. I'm still getting my feet wet with Virtualbox.

Created the VM but it does not boot. Just get a black screen. When I power it off I get the improper shutdown message from Windows when I power it back on, so it looks like it boots, I just don't see anything.

    SUCCESS!

Had to enable IOAPIC on the VM. I am posting from an XP virtual machine within Suse 10.3.

The only problem now is that XP want's to activate. It claims I have activated it too many times and I have to put in a new key. MS sucks!

I may create a Windows 2000 VM to avoid that.

Thanks for the update. I may run into the same problem and I also have Windows 2000 to try!
