I am trying to install apache and php on my new HP2133 without luck. I was able to install mysql but I keep running into dead ends with apache and php.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Keith |

Don't try to install them from upstream packages from the "vendor". SUSE has ready to go packages already. In YaST > Software > Software management, look for the pattern LAMP server (I think).

Thanks that helps. I found the lamp_server and when I tried to install it bombed with an error about a discrepancy with mysql. I uninstalled mysql but I still get that error. I can see mysql in the bin directory but when I run it from the command line it tells me its not found. rpm -q -a | grep mysql doesn't find anything. Is there another way I need to remove MySQL before installing lamp_server?

Your previous install probably left data directories in /var/lib/mysql. Remove it. Also remove any programs installed.

This is the exact error I get:
Unresolved dependencies: Installing pattern:lamp_server-10.2-145.i586[openSUSE 10.2] php5-mysql-5.2.0-10.i586[openSUSE 10.2] needed by pattern:lamp_server-10.2-145.i586[openSUSE 10.2] Installing php5-mysql-5.2.0-10.i586[openSUSE 10.2] mysql-shared-5.0.26-12.18.i586[SLED10-SP2-Pool] needed by php5-mysql-5.2.0-10.i586[openSUSE 10.2] Installing mysql-shared-5.0.26-12.18.i586[SLED10-SP2-Pool] Can't install mysql-shared-5.0.26-12.i586[openSUSE 10.2], since mysql-shared-5.0.26-12.18.i586[SLED10-SP2-Pool] is already marked as needing to be installed Marking this resolution attempt as invalid. Why is it trying to install for both 10.2 and SLED10? I took the 10.2 reference out of the sources and then it couldn't find lamp_server. Quote:

Have you been installing RPMs from SLED? Naughty boy. You have to get rid of those packages from SLED.

Hmm, you are not under the mistaken impression that OpenSUSE 10.2 is SLED10SP2 are you?
OpenSUSE != SLED. Don't mix the two. That might account for your sshd problems too. |

Guilty as charged. Out of my ignorance I was trying to install rpm for OpenSUSE.
OK... I'd like to start over. Any idea how I can restore factory conditions. I haven't loaded any personal stuff on the box so wiping the whole thing out is ok. Quote:
