Acer Aspire 5315, when I unplug the AC adapter, the brightness of my screen doesn't change using 10.3, whereas on mandriva 2008, the brightness does change. On suse, the Fn+left/right key combo works to change the brightness.

How do I go about solving this?

Try this:

Comment out the line in /etc/modprobe.d/xorg-x11-driver-video, so that it reads:

#install video /bin/true

Then in /etc/init.d/boot.local insert a line:

modprobe video

Reboot.

If this does not work then reverse the above steps and hope that somebody else can help!

Worked for me on HP laptop, but known to work on other systems. The module 'video' gives video support to acpi events such as power cable removal.

Good luck...
