I'm trying to get the sound to work on my laptop:
proc: Intel T9300 mobo: Intel GM965 chipset sound: 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller Driver: "HDA Intel" Driver Modules: "snd_hda_intel" Alsa is also installed. Whenever I start, all volumes are on 0%. However, when I turn up all volumes I still cannot hear sound. The mixer is also not on mute. I suspect that it has something to do with the modem not being installed, because with my winxp installation I also had to install those together. The modem driver I found from Lenovo is this one:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-69134 Which is unfortunately a 32 bit driver, which I cannot install: Quote:
Though, at the end, I do not care about the modem, who uses them nowadays anyway? I just want my sound to work! /offtopic http://www.thinkwiki.org is down? |

Please follow the openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide for guidance: http://en.opensuse.org/AudioTroubleshooting Note, assuming you are using openSUSE-10.3, when it comes to updating your alsa, that guide is written for users who applied the Novell/SuSE-GmbH updates to their openSUSE-10.3 kernel. If you are using the original kernel that came with openSUSE-10.3, then let me know, and I'll give you some revised "zypper" commands for updating your alsa. And if you get totally stumped (and if the troubleshooting guide does not help), please post here: a. output of: <span style="color:#CC0000">WELCOME to suseforums.net[/i] |

http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...E_10.3_Update/ And updating towards 1.0.16 Edited /etc/modeprob.d/sound by adding 'model=thinkpad' and all the other tricks in the audioguide and nothing happened. I was just writing a new post and figured that I should run both diagnostic scripts again so it will reflect my current situation when I read that only alsa-utils and alsa-firmware were updatet to 1.0.16 and alsa-driver WAS NOT! So entering alsa-driver in the search taught me that alsa-driver-kmp-default was not even installed Installing these, rebooting and putting up the volume in the mixer did the trick!FOR USERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM: - make sure that you have at least alsa-driver-kmp-default 1.0.16 installed - make also sure that your volume is at max when you perform 'speaker-test -c2 -Ddefault -twav' through your laptop speakers since you might otherwise not hear it! Anyway, time for some minimal techno B) |

If one was using the 2.6.22.5 kernel (which comes with openSUSE-10.3 cd/dvd), and if one has not yet updated, one would instead use: Code:
