I have an A200 Toshiba with 10.3 and am having overheating problems. Checking the logs /var/log/messages /var/log/boot.msg /var/log/warn. This is what I found.
Quote:
.var/log/messages
Mar 29 15:53:39 suse kernel: ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN0] to D0
Mar 29 15:53:39 suse kernel: ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN0] to D0
Mar 29 15:53:39 suse kernel: ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [dffe6aa4] 'on'

/var/log/boot.msg
<4>Initializing Device/Processor/Thermal objects by executing _INI methods:<4>ACPI: System BIOS is requesting _OSI(Linux)
<4>ACPI: Please test with "acpi_osi=!Linux"
<4>Please send dmidecode to linux-acpi@vger.kernel.org

<6>ACPI: Thermal Zone [TZ00] (36 C)
<4>ACPI: Invalid passive threshold

<4>ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN0] to D0
<4>ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [dffe6aa4] 'on'
<6>ACPI: Thermal Zone [TZ01] (28 C)
<4>Marking TSC unstable due to: possible TSC halt in C2.

/var/log/warn
Mar 29 21:47:26 suse kernel: ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN0] to D3
Mar 29 21:47:26 suse kernel: ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN0] to D3[/b]
These are only snips of the files, the parts I could find that related to the fan.

I have searched for two days to try and find a solution for this and came up with nothing. I would appreciate any help to fix this

Cheers, Ian...
