What kind of videocard do you have? Are you using KDE or Gnome? Do you have the latest driver and compiz updates?

Did you open de Desktop Effects menu and enabled it there? (if you have nVidia you do not need this btw)

Little bit more info pls.

Running an nvidia FX5200 on KDE 3.5, assuming I've loaded all the relevant updates etc, and have enabled all I can see on Compiz config........

I had the same problem. You know the one step I over looked and no one pointed out is changing your session in the session manager. Just click on the button on the right side of the task bar and left click it (the red one) and click on "configure session manager". Near the bottom of the session manager there is a drop down menu that should say "kwin" if your using KDE. Change that to compiz. That was my problem for a while.. I also had to build my own repository to get compiz installed. That part was really annoying.

I hope this helps. If not I hope someone here can help.

Did you follow this how-to? Specifically, where it said to open a terminal and enter:
su -
nvidia-xconfig --composite
nvidia-xconfig --render-accel
nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals -d 24

Forgetting to do that tripped me up. I have the same card running on 10.3 and compiz is finally working. Oh! For your card, use the green icon for 1-click. Although, you probably have the installation complete already.
