Hibernate On Hp Dv9700

I have just installed SuSE 10.3 on my HP dv9700. Everything works well except for the hibernate feature of pm.
When I try to suspend to my hard disk, the process gets to the stage when it is supposed to snapshot the system, and there it hangs until I press the power button to turn off the machine. When I turn the machine back on, the grub menu is skipped and the OS is loaded directly. However, it does not restore the state from which I issued the command. Any suggestions about what I can do?
