To start with, I'm running a Compaq Presario f579wm laptop. I've spent the last several days getting everything on this system up and running. I finally managed to get the Nvidia drivers working correctly after upgrading the system.

Now I have a new issue.

Whenever the system powers off the display, for powersave reasons, I end up with what looks to be a very low resolution setting when I come back. Going into the nvidia control panel, which is quite a task ends up with the system telling me that the driver is not running. That's what it seems to say anyway, the test is very difficult to read. I still have all of my 3D effects running, so I know it's still active.

I'll do what I can to get a decent screenshot, but I doubt it will come from the system itself. It's too hard to do even the simplest navigation.

*EDIT*
Went back to my linux system, I am currently on my XP desktop. Noticed a few more things. The screen has a black bar along the right side about 2 inches wide after the monitor comes back on. Also a simple restart of the X server fixes the problem temporarily. I now am told that the nvidia driver isn't being used even immediately after startup.

I managed to get some screenshots, but they don't show the effects. Everything looks normal in them. Will post the error message shot as soon as possible.

Updates.

I got a screenshot of the error message, nothing real great though from it.

I did as the error message suggested, and check the Xorg.conf file afterwards. Nvidia is listed as the driver being used.

Still looking for a solution.
