I recently got my first brand-new laptop (hp dv9535nr). It has two 120 Gb hard drives in it. I want to install 10.3 and was considering shrinking the Vista partition to make room for root and putting home & swap partitions on the second drive. Can anyone tell me if there would be a performance hit or other drawbacks by using this configuration?

None at all. In fact, I would advise having /home on a seperate partition anyway. If one drive is faster than the other, put the swap partition on that one

Not just a separate partition but a separate drive. They're both the same speed & everything.

Still a good idea.

One advantage is when upgrade time comes along - or you want to change OS mix - it is much easier to preserve home if it is on a separate drive.

Indeed. You'll notice my post took this into account when I said "None at all."

Good Luck!
