Hi everyone, I just installed the latest version of this great OS on my Gateway 200ARC laptop. I remember installing a very early boxed version of SUSE and I'm very impressed that linux has gone such a long way towards user friendliness.
Anyway the problem I'm having is in regards to getting the S-video output on the laptop to work so that I could hook up a regular SDTV to it. It detects the Intel 855GM integrated graphics correctly and it installs the drivers. How can I enable the S-Video out? Please keep in mind I'm just a newbie so simple steps would be very helpful. Once I can get this working I can wipe Windows off my hard drive. Thanks for reading! Edit: Most of the major problems have been solved. I managed to output it to the TV as well as the laptop LCD by editing the /ect/X11/xorg.conf file by changing "CRT, LDP" to "TV, LDP." Then I edited the preferences in Realplayer and unchecked a box called "Xvideo" (?) under the hardware tab so that the video shows up on the TV instead of being just a black box. Then to output it to just the TV I used the built in keyboard function to switch it around. I hope this helps someone out there. Now my parents can watch their shows from Hong Kong on the TV on Linux. Sweet. |

I would like to use TV-out on my notebook (an ASUS Z92U) too. However, it's not working. I can't find the "CRT,LDP" line that you mentioned; is there another way to solve this?

If you edit this line will you still be able to use VGA if available?
My laptop supports both VGA and s-video out and I'd like to be able to use either of them without having to edit xorg.conf to use the given display I have avaialble. The Windows drivers will detect whichever is plugged in and use that. |
