I'm running Suse 10.3, and installed the skype rpm: skype-2.0.0.68-suse.i586.rpm
Skype installed fine. My webcam is a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000. Skype doesn't see the camera (Options/Video-Devices/ No Devices Found) A friend of mine installed the same camera on the latest Ubuntu (hardy?) and it worked fine. My kernel is 2.6.22.17-0.1-default When I plug in the camera, I see this in the messages file: Jun 3 14:49:20 zathras kernel: usb 4-7: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 33 Jun 3 14:49:20 zathras kernel: usb 4-7: new device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=0990 Jun 3 14:49:20 zathras kernel: usb 4-7: new device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=2 Jun 3 14:49:20 zathras kernel: usb 4-7: SerialNumber: F901AF06 Jun 3 14:49:20 zathras kernel: usb 4-7: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Anyone else using this camera and/or know what the problem might be? Thanks! |

go to YaST - community repositories & activate webcam repository. once done, go to YaST - software management & type in the search field gspca. select the one that matches your kernel & install. this should sort you out

Hi guys,
I have similar problem. My camera is Logitech for notebook and I have the gspca drivers installed. When I plug the camera, the LED lights up and I can use it for example with vlc to capture a video. When I start skype the camera turns off. If I plug it out and in again then in the skype options I can see it only in the Sound Devices section, but not in the Video Devices. I am with suse 10.3, x86_64, however with the i586 skype 2.0.0.68 ... |

When I searched yasst for gspca, 2 items matched my cpu: gspcav-kmp-default-01.00.12_2.6.22.17_0.1-6.1 gspcav1-kmp-default-20071224_2.6.22.17_0.1-10.2 SO, I also installed the gspcav1-kmp-default-20071224_2.6.22.17_0.1-10.2. However, the results are the same as when I started. I saw this site: http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/Web_Cameras It mentioned something about installing a 'uvc' driver for older kernels/systems. I decided to try it anyway and installed via yasst: uvcvideo-kmp-default-r171_2.6.22.17_0.1-3.5 Now, when I plug in my camera, I get more in the messages file: Jun 5 15:30:30 zathras kernel: usb 4-7: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 10 Jun 5 15:30:30 zathras kernel: usb 4-7: new device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=0990 Jun 5 15:30:30 zathras kernel: usb 4-7: new device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=2 Jun 5 15:30:30 zathras kernel: usb 4-7: SerialNumber: F901AF06 Jun 5 15:30:30 zathras kernel: usb 4-7: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Jun 5 15:30:30 zathras kernel: uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device <unnamed> (046d:0990) That did the trick. It works now. Thanks for the help. Feel free to update any documentation with my find. ![]() |
