<div align="left"> em...I'm pretty new to SUSE, I had been dealing with following problem for a couple days now.

I have an ATI X800 AGP graphics card. I install the driver(newest version 8.5 from ATI official website, X800 is in the supporting list though it's a little old...) on OpenSUSE 10.3 according to the manual "ATI-Opensuse"(http://en.opensuse.org/Ati).

I chose the hard way when fail trying easy way twice...Everything look fine when I approach to "Chapter 2.6.4 - Configuring the newly installed ATI driver", when I try the next step, run "sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx" command, SAX2 runs normally, no black screen but jumps a message box telling me "SaX2 cannot offer activation of the 3D subsystem because your graphics card/driver doesn't support 3D".

So I follow the troubleshooting step, But it's strange that the "fglrxinfo" shows an ATI opengl driver instead of the MESA ones, and "glxgears" gives me about 5000 fps and "fgl_glxgears" runs at about 1500 FPS. Everything seems so well!!! And I can even config display through ATI Catalyst Control Panel and that shows all information about my video card properly.

Everything should be working fine but only 3D is not support by SAX2, when I go to YaST -> Graphics Adapter -> Monitor settings to enable 3d Acceleration, the check box is greyed out.

I'm really going mad with such strange problem...anyone can help me?

I don't see much of a problem here. It sounds like you have ATI Open GL support plus 3d. Your frame rates seem about right under glxgears and fgl_glxgears. Plus fglrxinfo and the CCC both say you are running the ATI driver.

I would suggest not worrying about the grayed out box too much.

If you are feeling adventurous, you might go into init 3 again and run

Code:
sax2 -r
Sometimes that will work better than sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx particularly when you install with an RPM as opposed to the hard way with the installer.

Thanks peckinpah!

I hoped not worrying about the driver problem! But when I finished installing the compiz through '1-click' install on the suse webpage, no 3D desktop was activated...I tried to click the "Enable desktop effects" in Simple compiz config setting manager, it just give me a screen flash and the check box goes grey automatically...

It seems that driver is still a big problem...
I had try sax2 -r in init 3 but SAX2 still send me the same message.
