Today I bought this printer. I connected it to usb port. OpenSuSE 10.3 detected it as: deskjetd2400series.
USB printer on //HP/Deskjet%20D2400%20series?serial=TH7BD553QN04Y7 I clicked edit and yast started downloading some drivers from repositories. It was finished and I clicked FINISH. But I cant print. Then I installed this: hplip. But it wont print. I installed printer on windows and its working fine. What to do? |

Try "deleting" the printer, then click "edit" again. Once you have clicked edit you should see a profile for the printer. Highlight where it says "ppd file" and click "edit" again.
There should be several ppd files there. You can try them one at a time and and click "test printing" to see if any of them work. Once you find one that works, click OK and OK and Finish. If this does not work, I don't know what else to suggest, other than going back to Windows when you need to print. |

It should be just a simple matter then of ensuring the print statement in the configuration setup of each of the programs is sorted. Can you still print a good test page? Quote:

It started working because you thought to yourself, "Hey I wonder what will happen if I try using one of these other printers I have installed here" and it worked. Pretty much any problem in Suse can be solved with a little creative thought and some patience. BTW, you could delete those other printers in YAST / Hardware / Printer if you get tired of looking at them, now that you know the solution to your problem and that it IS possible to get your printer working. |

Helen,
That new printer you picked up is a very good one for the price. I have installed more of the HP 2360 units than I can remember. The replacement HP 2460 units are the most popular that I suggest and install right now. For $50, you get a printer with excellent support in Linux. The cartridges are a tad small, but if you make sure you adjust your print settings to use "grayscale" and "text" when printing plain documents, you can stretch the life of the tri-color cartridge. Enjoy! |

I had some problems with HP printer also as I posted elsewhere on this forum, ended up with 2 printers, what what I can gather from all the info I read is this (please correct me if I am wrong)
- to make the HP printer work correctly it needs to use hplib - installing the printer in yast you thus dont select usb but instead select hplib - yast will give some message about the hplib service needed and starting it what I ran into with the above was: - hplib service never got started on the 1st install - after a reboot yast came with the message of new hardware (printer) found and installed that printer as usb - cups after that also showed 2 printers: HP_PCS_2170_series and HP_PCS_2170_series-2 (http://localhost:631/printers/) - printing to the HP_PCS_2170_series works fine in cups, kate, open office - printing to the HP_PCS_2170_series-2 does not work in cups, kate, open office - removing the HP_PCS_2170_series-2 will mess the whole thing up and will need to remove HP_PCS_2170_series also and basicly start from scrath so I ended up with: HP_PCS_2170_series which shows connection in cups and yast: hp:/usb/PSC_2170_Series?serial=MY43OF53Z873 HP_PCS_2170_series-2 which shows connection in cups and yast usb://HP/PSC%202170%20Series?serial=MY43OF53Z873 From what I understand from here (https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/27509) the self made/installed printer HP_PCS_2170_series using hplib returns a diffrent device id then the auto-detect/install from yast which uses usb... hence yast thinking you got a 2nd usb printer next the to the hp:/usb/ I am still not clear why, if I remove HP_PCS_2170_series-2 the whole thing will fall appart but.... oh well ![]() hope this helps to shed some light... onto something anyways -cal |
