Hey,
I'm having great difficulty installing X-Fi drivers on my computer. My distro is Ubuntu Hardy Heron, my processor and operating system are both 64 bit. I have a Creative X-Fi Music card, last time I tried linux there were no drivers available so I had to use Windows. Now that beta drivers are out I would like to become familar with Ubuntu. So far this is what I've tried, I have download two types of drivers. Creatives ones and the OSS ones. I can get neither to work. Creative Drivers OSS Drivers I downloaded the AMD64 DEB ones from OSS. Then I extracted and opened with 'GDebi Package Installer', it said installed but no sound. The Creative ones, there is only one type of driver. One size fits all I suppose. I tried to follow the read me instructions which are Quote:
If somebody could walk me through this I would be much appreciated. I'm new to Linux, so explain as if you were giving instructions to your grandmother. Dev |

You might just want to ask at the Ubuntu Forum.

Thanks, I have made a post on the ubuntu forums but no reply unfortunately. It's very busy and unlikely my post was read. I have decided to make my problem more specific. That way somebody could help me with this bit of the problem.
Anyway I've been following the instructions of this thread. I'm having problems with instruction 6. After I type in the command I get this in the terminal. Code:
dpkg-split: error reading oss-linux_v4.0-1015_amd64: Is a directory dpkg: error processing oss-linux_v4.0-1015_amd64 (--install): subprocess dpkg-split returned error exit status 2 Errors were encountered while processing: oss-linux_v4.0-1015_amd64 |

OK, I have gotten by that bit, I needed to perform the command on the .deb file. I was performing the command on the extracted file. Now that the command works or at least doesn't return just errors.
Code:
sean@sean-desktop:~/Desktop$ sudo dpkg -i oss-linux_v4.0-1015_amd64.deb [sudo] password for sean: (Reading database ... 109150 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace oss-linux v4.0-1015 (using oss-linux_v4.0-1015_amd64.deb) ... sh: Can't open /usr/lib/oss/scripts/restore_drv.sh dpkg: warning - old pre-removal script returned error exit status 2 dpkg - trying script from the new package instead ... sh: Can't open /usr/lib/oss/scripts/restore_drv.sh dpkg: error processing oss-linux_v4.0-1015_amd64.deb (--install): subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 2 Building OSS Modules for Linux-unknown 2.6.24-16-generic cd: 3: can't cd to /usr/lib/oss/build sh: Can't open install.sh Starting Open Sound System cat: /usr/lib/oss/version.dat: No such file or directory /usr/lib/oss/etc/devices.list: No such file or directory No /usr/lib/oss/etc/installed_drivers - cannot continue Errors were encountered while processing: oss-linux_v4.0-1015_amd64.deb Dev |
