N00b question:

I have Ubuntu 7.10 AMD64 running with the latest ATI driver using AIGLX (not XGL) and CompizFusion... I would like to do the same in openSUSE 10.3 64bit but whatever I set in xorg.conf, enabling 3D will surely start nagging about XGL not being installed

IT SHOULD NOT NEED TO BE! (he shouted really frustrated)

Finally, the ATI drivers are capable of using AIGLX for 3D rendering... now what can I do to make my openSUSE 10.3 installation understand that ?

I can make 3D work with xcompmgr just fine (just a little jerky, sometimes) but would really like to move to some more advanced options then shadowing and transparency

Sorry about the shouting and thanks for any advice

Wow, nobody done this yet?

Anyway, this is what I found so far by combining these articles:
>>http://en.opensuse.org/AIGLX (incomplete for the ATI driver)

1. Did the one-click install for CompizFusion for Gnome (http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...sion-gnome.ymp) as described on >>http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz_Fusion

2. Followed the easy/one-click install route described for the 'latest' ATI-driver on >>http://en.opensuse.org/ATI

3. Manually changed the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file according to >>http://en.opensuse.org/AIGLX

Now starting CompizFusion with the new menu entry 'Compiz Fusion Icon' works and I get a tray icon from where I can change the Desktop Effects to my preferences

The only thing that I have not accomplished is to start this at login, because when I try to open 'Sessions' from the Configuration menu, nothing happens ... What's wrong now ???

Also, hibernation and suspend is broken and processor seems to be running at an average of ~20% constantly... Is that normal with Compiz?

Hmmm, maybe I will revert to using xcompmgr again <_<
