I use the x86_64 version of Firefox 2.0.0.6-25. It often complains about a missing Java plugin.
I have the x86_64 version of java-1_5_0-sun.
I find that a java-1_5_0-sun plugin is available but only in i586 version.

Will the x84_64 versions of Firefox and Java work with a 32 bit plugin? If not, how do I supply my Firefox
with its missing plugin? Can anyone help?

Thanks thekernel,
I'll certainly try this. Funny isn't it, having quite a few of these problems when working with x86_64 versions. Maybe I'll just throw out the whole 64-bit SuSE version and go back to 32-bit.

There is no reason to give up on 64 bit. I have run it for years without much problems. As the Thread mentioned you can run 32 bit Firefox without penalty in 64 bit SUSE. It might seem quirky but than you get all the nerd points for doing so. B)

In the Factory repository there is the new IcedTea Java available. It works fine in 64bit and you do not need to go and install Firefox 32bit or stuff like that...

Go to http://software.opensuse.org/search , enter java-1_7_0-icedtea in the search field, select the openSUSE Factory option and hit Search.

Now you need both the java-1_7_0-icedtea and java-1_7_0-icedtea-plugin packages.

If you go for the One Click Install option, do not forget to switch of (un-check) the openSUSE Factory repository that is automatically added to your update/sources list. If you leave it active, you will get a message about a zillion upgrades from your Update Manager (which you should ignore obviously, unless you want to be moving to 11.0 alpha anyway )

Worked fine for me

My Firefox browser still complains java missing ;-) BTW continues with the you need Java update complaint, however can log in now ;-)

Action taken:

\Edit
\Preferences
\Firefox preferences
\Content
\Enable JavaScript
\Advanced JavaScript Settings

Allow scripts to:
Y Move or resize existing windows
Y Raise or lower windows
Y Disable or replace context menus
n Hide the status bar
Y Change the status bar text

Not recall selecting any of these earlier, will slowly remove rest of Y to see which caused the problem.

YaST not yet showing either the java-1_7_0-icedtea and java-1_7_0-icedtea-plugin packages.

Wonder when they may appear in YaST to help this non-technical users loves YaST.
