Hi

I have been running OpenSuse 10.3 on this dual core amd 64 for about 3 months and I have been applying all the updates. Just recently it has started to hang (all network services and the interface), I am guessing on suspend. When I try to get access again the box is unresponsive and I need to do a hard reboot. I have checked what I believe to be the obvious locations - logs dmesg etc but nothing sticks out like a sore thumb.

It has an Nvidia graphics card and I am using their raid also other than that it is a vanilla machine. I have scanned the forums and again nothing seems to relate to this sudden demise of this box. I use it for work so I would like to gat back to it .

Are there any known issues in my ignorance I have over looked. Any pointers or problem resolving routines would be greatly appreciated.

I know it seems odd to reply to your own posting, the issue was the memory was being "maxed" out over time - approx 1 hour. I have turned off on-line update & beagle - hey presto the box keeps running. It is not the fix to the problem but a work around, just in case any one else has similar issues.

Glad you found a fault; good work.

Look in /var/log/messages; there should be one of them that keeps track of events by time; note the time & when you reboot go there & look at what event happened at that time -- for starters.

Did you do an update prior to having trouble? Do you recall what was updated? (we can get you back to say an earlier kernel for example). Did you add some new apps? What changed?

A universal solution to many problems in openSUSE. Glad you got it fixed.

Cheers,
