Hey guys,

I am running a Suse 10.3 on an AMD64x2 processor. I have Compiz-fusion up and running and have no problems with performance - a bit unstable at times but never lagging. Now the problem is that my xorg seems to have a huge memory leak - it grows to up 1.9GB. I have 4GB, 512MB given to integrated video, so out of 3.5GB, 2GB end up going to xorg and another 700MB to misc processes, so i end up with around 800MB free.

The interesting thing is that it continuously grows - I left it overnight and when I woke up the VMSize had grown from around 170MB to a stunning 1.9GB.
I am at a loss here. I am guessing there is a problem with fglrx/compiz-fuzion but since i am a bit of a newbie i would appreciate some help in determining what exactly is wrong.

Here is fglrxinfo:
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon X1200 Series
OpenGL version string: 2.1.7276 Release

The ATI driver i installed was 8.45.5 i think ...

Ok, any help would be appreciated!

Thanks guys

I've had this problem as well with an Nvidia gfx card, I think the culprit is Xgl.

For example, XGL normally uses ~200MB for everyday tasks, but after playing around with Google Earth and closing it, it balloons to 1.3GB.

I guess I'll have to switch over to the compositing effects in KDE4 instead of XGL.
