Hi. I just installed OpenSUSE 10.3 64-bit version.I configured compiz and some other stuff but i noticed that SUSE is eating about 600 mb(no programs running in the background) of my system ram. When i turn compiz it rises to 720 mb. A friend was runing Ubuntu with beryl and he turned off all efects except the cube and his memory usage was max 250mb..300mb with all efects. Why is suse using so much memory? Is it because i use the 64 bit version?

note that kernel will use all available memory for disk cache and buffers so the normal is to have only a few mb free but cache & buffers memory will be released for applications at any time menu -> system -> monitor -> ksysteminfo will show you detailed map of memory if you have 600/720 mb without cache and buffers something is really wrong |
