Hi,

I'm migrating from kubuntu to opensuse. So far everything looks pretty nice, but I have the typical problems with the 64bits distros, and I'm a little lost in the forum. The things that I want to do are

1.- How to install 32bits firefox together with 64bits firefox? I would like to be able to use Java and I don't know how to make it work in 64bits firefox

2.- How to install skype 2.0? in kubuntu after installing it I had to recompile the spca driver. If I have to recompile this driver what packages would I need?

3.- In kubuntu I used apt to install packages using the command line, how can I install packages with the command line in opensuse?

4.- I want to install amule, but I can't find it in the repos where can I find it? where can I find another repos for another software?

5.- Finally, where can I find the repos for KDE4? I have heard that kde4 in opensuse is great and I would like to try it.

thanks for your help

Welcome to the forum, krul!

I do not use many of the program you mentioned, so I do not have the answers to many of your questions. However, I do know a few things.

Package management is handled by YaST. You really need to make YaST your friend. Read over http://en.opensuse.org/YaST for a good overview.

Also, openSUSE is different in philosophy than other distros. http://en.opensuse.org/Concepts and http://en.opensuse.org/Getting_Started_with_openSUSE are some interesting reads.

The documentation at http://www.novell.com/documentation/...103/index.html is worth checking out, too.

The majority of your package needs can be found already on the openSUSE 10.3 DVD. If there is something else not included, you can check http://software.opensuse.org/search to find the best repository for your current need.

Other should post more specific answers to your questions. Maybe I was able to hit the high points and point you in the right direction. Good luck!

Hi, I am not sure about question number 1. I think someone can help u out with that.

You can download skype 2.0 from here for SUSE:

http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skyp...ux/beta/choose/

In case your webcam doesn't work which I doubt, just go to software management and search for spca or gspcav and whichever driver is installed then just right click on it and choose reinstall, simple as that, but I doubt u will need to.

In SUSE we use Zypper to install from the command line for example if u know of a package name then type in konsole:

sudo zypper install pidgin

Thats an example to show u how easy it is, learn more about it from here:

http://en.opensuse.org/Zypper/Usage

Have u added all the required repositories for Yast in community repositories, add all of them except the ones that say for experts only. Amule should be in the repositories.

Installing KDE 4 is very easy in SUSE, we use one click install:

http://en.opensuse.org/KDE4

Well that answers all your questions except the first, I will find out information about the first one but I think someone will help u shortly.

Welcome to openSUSE and these forums though.
