The mouse pointer does not display in Suse 10.2 or Suse 10.3. The mouse does work but there is no cursor on my desktop. I tried to change mice and there is no difference. Anyone have an idea or solution to this problem? I am running the 64 bit version on an intel platform with plenty of RAM. As an aside, I can also only use a 16 bit color palette and the system informs me that my video card does not support 3D, which it does in Windows. Thanks. FrankM |

I have the exact same problem as FrankM .
running openSUSE 10.3 x64 on AMD platform, with 6600GT graphics card and 1,5 Gb RAM . Friend told me that I should install original nvidia drivers for my card, which I will eventually do, but can't believe there's no easier way. |

Welcome to the forum FrankM and IzNoGuD!
Sorry to hear you are having a slight issue with your new install. Sometimes the small things can give the greatest frustration. However, once you get everything ironed out, you will see just how great openSUSE is. You may want to look at the X11 config file. I am not sure if this will solve this problem or not, but maybe by adding the following two lines to /etc/X11/xorg.conf file under the Devices Section, this might work. Option "HWCursor" "off" Option "SWCursor" "on" I have not had this particular issues, but this was a possible solution I found while researching the problem. Also, if you run sax2 -r to re-initialize the sax settings, then changed the monitor resolution to the 'native' setting, that might help. I cannot guarantee success, but it is worth a shot. Good luck, and please post back with any further observations. |

Rivenought,
Thank you for your efforts researching my little problem. I added those two lines of code to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, no luck. I shut down and restarted the server, still no mouse. Here is a snippet of my xorg.conf file, btw, I placed those two lines first under "device" and then under the present section. and I tried both formats, yours and this one. Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "HWCursor[off]" Option "SWCursor[on]" Option "Buttons" "5" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Name" "Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical" Option "Protocol" "explorerps/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Maybe I should comment out the "ZAxisMapping' line, I am not too sure though. As far as the display goes, I did download and added to the repository the nvidia driver from nvidia. The "how To" says to unload the "nvmodule" and then add the nvidia driver. I was not able to locate the nvmodule in /proc/modules at all. I did try to find any module to do with the display, but did not find any. Maybe the Sax2 is unable to load certain modules and just loads some defaults that work, but not as good as the correct ones. Thank you for all your help, it may be frustrating to some, but to me this is a somewhat fun learning experience and I know that I will get this work somehow. A last question. Both Kopete and Pidgin refuse to load, well Pidgin anyway, Kopete just gives me no connection even though I know I am because I am on a browser researching a few thins. This is not important as I can always switch back to windows, yuk, but yahoo messenger does work well there. Thanks. FrankM |
