Hello,
I am new to this forum.
I currently am running 64bit Suse 10.3 that I have just recently installed having been using Fedora for some time. I am currently multi booting with Fedora and XP.

I have 3D running using Xorg. I have downloaded the Nvidia drivers but can't get them to run (thats for another time!!!)

My problem is that I am default booting into Gnome, But I don't have any window manager (minimise, maximise close) at the top of any window.

I had a look through the forum and found one topic that suggested typing in kwin --replace &
I gave that a go and the following message came up.

Invalid entry (missing'=') at /tmp/kde-root/kconf-updatedsu51b.tmp:1
trying '/root/.xcompmgrrc' as configfile
finished parsing config file

Now I have lost the ability to minimise, maximise or close using the task bar at the bottom of the screen. Also if I want to work on another open window that is behind another window, I have to close the window in front using the file>exit. (I can't switch between windows)

Any suggestions??

Welcome to the forum

No window borders can depend on many things and the right settings on the what graphics card you are using.

Asuming you have installed the compiz-fusion set, one thing you could try is to install the ' compiz-manager' and load it at boot. This might set things straight and give you the borders back.

If you already have the fusion-icon instlled try running 'fusion-icon' from a terminal console or via ALT-F2.

Also please include your graphics card details as someone might be able to give you a good solution fit to your situation.

Cheers,
Wj

Thanks for replying.

I haven't installed compiz-fusion. (that I am aware of). My graphics card is Nvidia Geforce 7100 GS.

I did have the borders when I switched to KDE, but now they seem to have deserted me as well.

I have now added compiz and have been able to 'find' the bar at the top of the window to minimise, maximise etc. But it would be nice to know what the initial problem was.

Thank you for your help.

Happy Susing (can that be a verb!!!)
