suse64:/ # uname -a
Linux suse64 2.6.22.17-0.1-default #1 SMP 2008/02/10 20:01:04 UTC x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The kernel version is quite old. How can I use YUM to perform kernel upgrade?
New to Open Suse,

Thanks

Upgrade thru the Yast online update

Remember that a kernel upgrade will often break your video driver, so this will need re-installing. In many cases, this will happen auto, but not always. (I have to install mine manually from the command line) but if you have it working via a repo install, I would tend to go to software management after you have run the kernel update - but before reboot, and re-install the video driver packages just to be sure.

That is the latest "supported" update for 10.3 version as of yesterday. If you want to go up to 2.6.24, & up, look (search) in tips & tricks for "kernel" &:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/...SE_10.3/x86_64/ for latest 10.3 devel kernel
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/...Factory/x86_64/ for latest "head" devel kernel
or
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/...SE_10.3/x86_64/ for kernel-default-2.6.25_rc1-git something
or
http://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/ for kernel of the day

I recommend reading a few of the howto's in tips & tricks 1st & not experiment on a production system.

Have fun

In my office, I have 2.6.18-39 RedHat. I thought -39 is higher version, my mistake here.
I do have the latest kernel.

Took awhile to load EVERYTHING here, the best it works out great, video/network all fine now.
I have ATI 9600/256M.

I tried CentOS, you know what 1 of 2 CPU Opteron is not recognized.

Next hurdle, I have 8G memory here. I need to enable it, somehow it shows 3071M bytes.

Well done job, thanks
