suse64:/ # uname -a
Linux suse64 2.6.22.17-0.1-default #1 SMP 2008/02/10 20:01:04 UTC x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux suse64:/ # The kernel version is quite old. How can I use YUM to perform kernel upgrade? New to Open Suse, Thanks |

Upgrade thru the Yast online update
Remember that a kernel upgrade will often break your video driver, so this will need re-installing. In many cases, this will happen auto, but not always. (I have to install mine manually from the command line) but if you have it working via a repo install, I would tend to go to software management after you have run the kernel update - but before reboot, and re-install the video driver packages just to be sure. |

Have fun

In my office, I have 2.6.18-39 RedHat. I thought -39 is higher version, my mistake here.
I do have the latest kernel. Took awhile to load EVERYTHING here, the best it works out great, video/network all fine now. I have ATI 9600/256M. I tried CentOS, you know what 1 of 2 CPU Opteron is not recognized. Next hurdle, I have 8G memory here. I need to enable it, somehow it shows 3071M bytes. Well done job, thanks |
