First off, let me say thanks in advance. I just installed 10.2. I had been hearing really good things and decided to give it a whirl. I had SuSE way back about 4 years ago and wasn't too impressed but this time...WOW. Loving it so far. However, I noticed something after installing a system monitor from superkaramba. My CPU was only showing 1GHz. I thought maybe it was a bug and looked in the hardware profile, and, sure enough, it's showing only 1GHz. The problem is I have an AMD Athlon 64 3700+(which is correctly identifies in the profile and everywhere else I look) 2.4GHz. I haven't seen this before with any other distro. So, two questions: 1) Does that mean that my processor is actually only running at 1GHz instead of running at the full 2.4GHz? 2) How do I fix it? Thanks, again, in advance!

Do you have powersave installed, turned on and setup? I had the same thing some time ago. My problem was that the bios did not meet spec. The 1st thing to do is check for a BIOS update for the motherboard; then the problem may go away. If that does not fix it, then, you may have a problem with the DSDT (a table in the BIOS that feeds SuSE device info & where it goes at boot); see: http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showto...893&hl=dsdt If you have to fix the DSDT, read through the whole post 1st & take notes; it's not tough... And, if it is a DSDT problem, this is not a SuSE problem. SuSE expects the BIOS to meet spec not some garbage kluged together with a MS compiler. Hope this helps. |
