I managed to install and update the 32-bit version without any problems . Now I'm tempted to re-install the 64-bit version again (hoping that the problem has been fixed)..

Could I ask a quick question? When installing the 64-bit version of openSUSE, would you recommend adding 32-bit support or just keep it plain 64-bit?

An x86-64 install will have all the 32-bit libs by default; just do a normal x86-64 install...

What about the "32-bit ...." checkbox (sorry, can't remember the name) under the first section? (when going into Expert / Software). Do I leave that unchecked then?

When installing the 64bit version I checked the box for 32bit lib support and have not had an issue with any apps or updates. I would think it can't hurt to check that box, "just in case".
