Thumbs up

Hello,

I just bought a new laptop and I decided to try OpenSuse 10.2 as I have heard good things about it. I usually run Gentoo on all my computers, servers and laptops so I can confess that the graphic installation seemed strange for me

Anyway, everything basic is working fine so now, I'm trying to get the rest working

Right now, I am stuck with the Battery charge monitor, which does not detect the battery charge, neither the power supply being plugged in or not. I am not sure in which direction, I should look, so any tips/infos will be Welcome

Second problem, the CPU scaling does not want to work. I tried to check the kernel config file to see if it is activated but I can't find any .config file in the /usr/src/linux-2.6.18.2-34-obj directory. Do you know where I could find it?

Thanks in advance for your tips/advice.

Nah, let's not delete it yet. How about telling your mates how you solved the problem...

It was a stupid solution...
I just changed "acpi=noacpi", which was needed to install the system properly, to "acpi=noirq".

The CPU scaling and the battery reading are now working thanks to this simple solution
btw, it also removed the 2 FATAL messages during the boot about the FAN and something else...

Cheers,

Ludo,

Just for kicks try taking out "acpi=noirq" and try "noapic"; if it does not work/get better, you can go back to "acpi=noirq".

And, thanks for the post as that's how we all learn...

Hello,

Ok so I tried the "noapic", things seems to work smoothly. I only add one freeze yesterday without warning and I am not sure why...
I will keep monitoring to see if this happens again :/

Okay, so I know it's been like a year since this thread was last discussed, but I'm new at Linux and I was wondering if you could be a bit more specific. My Battery Charge Monitor isn't showing me anything either. I just installed OpenSUSE 10.3 on an old laptop of mine. From what I understand, I don't think it supports APCI, but I'm not sure about that. When i installed OpenSUSE, I could only get it to install if the APCI was disabled, otherwise the installation would freeze up. So I think that proves it doesn't support APCI.

Anyhow, my question is: where do you specify "noapic" or "apci=noirq"? Do I put it in as an optional boot parameter or is there some file I edit, or what? Sorry to be stirring up old stuff, maybe I should make a new thread, but a reply would be much appreciated. Thanks!
