I've installed the boxed version of suse linux 10.1 and I don't remember having the option of installing either 32-bit or 64-bit, although the box says it has both. Is there a way to tell whether I'm running the 32 or 64-bit version? This is installed in system with intel core 2 duo, with intel p5b-e motherboard. Thanks for your help. Is there anything else I need to fully take advantage of the 64 bit? uname -a Linux sonata 2.6.16.13-4-smp #1 SMP Wed May 3 04:53:23 UTC 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Thanks. Lupin |

64-bit will display x86_64, here's a cnp of mine for example: Linux tardis 2.6.20.0-ck1-elsewhere #8 SMP PREEMPT Wed Feb 14 23:26:17 EST 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux If you're interested in running 64-bit, a reinstall is necessary, there's no (stable) upgrade path from 32-bit to 64-bit because the libraries and file structure are completely different. I'm not familiar with the retail DVD, but I would assume there should be an option presented if the installer detects a 64-bit compatible CPU. For the downloadable version, there are separate sets of .iso files for 32/64-bit. Hope this helps... Cheers, KV |

and to check about firefox, go to help About Mozilla Firefox and you see i686(x86-64) it means its 32-bit if you only see x86-64 your running 64-bit YaST automatically installs the 32-bit one. you can change this by going to the firefox rpm in YaST and click the versions tab. there you can change it to 64-bit
