do follow that but make sure to remove the old frglx x11 driver first just in case.

perhaps you should post both your xorg.conf and your Xorg log file (in /var/log)

Look here; page down: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=198125

"The problem is in that ati-packager.sh only works for English or US locale
settings. So people that has chosen they primary language."

There is a "Patch for building SuSE rpms on any Locale settings" link at that site!
or
"I think that setting LC_ALL + LANG to POSIX locale at the
beginning of the script would be a more general approach to address this
problem."

Have fun...

Thank you very much for all directions provided. It is working now - not 100% but I can get a decent resolution.

In a terminal "man patch"

The diff file is here: https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?...amp;action=diff
The patch details are here: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=198125

Probably the easiest way is to open the ATI installer package with your favorite editor (I like to use one that will add temp line numbers so I know where I am) and change the lines of code(starting on line 88), pay attention to indents, save, then run the installer.

I've spent the last 7 hours now working to enable ATI drivers on my system (I had everything working on 10.1 then I upgraded). First off nothing worked, ATI Video wise, after an upgrade so a reinstall was in order. Done with the reinstall and lets play the driver game.
8.28 (no support), 8.31 (no support), 8.32 (Ah, supported)
Well I have 2 screens on my system a 1600x1200 CRT and a 1680x1050 LCD and they work correctly in 10.1 using the 8.31 drivers (with 3d acceleration)
openSuse 10.2 x64 driver 8.32.5 (think that correct): Nothing works.

Run 'sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx' off a default xorgconfig (generated by the installer).
Brings up a screen at 1024x768, on the CRT is works on the LCD is is all disjointed and can not be made out.
If I save its config and then run X (both monitors are out of sync).
Run 'sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx' off a default xorgconfig (generated by the installer).
Brings up a screen at 1024x768, on the CRT is works on the LCD is is all disjointed and can not be made out.
If I set it to 1680x1050 (no 3d acceleration) and test the LCD works the CRT does not, save the settings.
The system crashes (yet as I left X both monitors are out of sync so no idea what the error is).
Reboot and start X (both monitors are out of sync).
Run 'sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx' off a default xorgconfig (generated by the installer).
Brings up a screen at 1024x768, on the CRT is works on the LCD is is all disjointed and can not be made out.
If I set it to 1600x1200 (no 3d acceleration) and test the CRT and LCd are out od sync (yet the monitor type is correct for the CRT it was on the list), save the settings.
If I save its config and then run X (both monitors are out of sync).

Basically no X no how never ATI's drivers suck.

All I want is 1600x1200 and 1680x1050 on 2 monitors without acceleration, yet I have no way to do this. xorconfig crashes on unresolved sun module as does xorgcfg so I can not set up X expect at 1024x768 using a VESA driver on the CRT.

My opion is openSUSE 10.2 is unusable with an ATI card currently.

by the way I'm a long time Linux user (since 1993, and Suse user for the last 4 years as my desktop OS).

I just did my laptop m9700 using this guide: http://www.softwareinreview.com/cms/content/view/60

When I was doing the 'sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx' I noticed a box to check for dualhead/twinhead.

Worked like a champ, except I had to reboot to get 3D.

You may want to check that your LCD x,y demensions are set correctly on that change config screen. I had to set mine,

Do you have a brand name monitor/model? that can be set too.

Is the refresh rate out of bounds?

Look hard at it all!

You can remove all that driver stuff & try a fresh install.
