Hi,
Well, just as I feared... Just bought a new comp with AMD64 3200+ S939 Asus A8N-SLI Asus EN6600GT-TD128 Seagate SATA 250GB Pioneer DVR-109 Windows installs perfectly, so all hardware is obviously OK. Put a Suse DVD in, it showed the first menu / installation screen, I chose install - and then there was silence... and a black screen... OK, 64-bit is stuffed, then I put a Suse CD in, it asked me if I really want to install a 32-bit version on a 64-bit comp, I said yes, it installed everything, I chose a root password, then it rebooted...and then there was silence... and a black screen... WHAT THE! Has anyone please got any idea what the... is wrong with it? How come it doesn't start the 64-bit version? I read somewhere that the DVD is double layer or something and if I need a 64-bit version I have to turn it upside down and insert it into the drive, but there's a Suse green label printed on the other side of the DVD. ??? |

Maybe try an FTP install and see if you have the same problems.
BTW, exactly what version are you installing? |

Darkelve,
What do you mean it's on the other side of the DVD, I've got a green SUSE label on the other side of the DVD! I'm trying to install ver. 9.2 Pro. By the way, I found a menu where I can actually choose either 32-bit or 64-bit version. That's a progress. But then it asks me to insert a floppy/CD before starting the install. I'm trying to install from the DVD, what freaking floppy is that supposed to be? I don't even have a floppy drive anymore. |

I think this is related to the new nVidia4 SATA-2 ports, and it wants to upload those drivers. Did you check the forum i told you at nforcershq.com - Linux section.

I tried it again and it's the same thing - black screen.
I've downloaded the patch CD, put it in, booted, it asked me to make sure the CD1 is in the drive so I put the DVD in, pressed install, it started doing something, got to loading YAST and that was IT! Black screen! S**T! What the h*** is the matter with it? Then I thought to h*** with 64-bit and started installing 32-bit from the CDs. I went through the whole installation process without a problem, then when it finally rebooted - black screen! What the h*** doesn't it like? My SATA HDD? but the 32-bit got installed. My Pioneer DVR? But again the 32-bit got installed. It didn't load YAST though. I suspect there's a problem in YAST itself as it starts booting ok but when it gets to loading it it just stops. Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone installed it on a Seagate SATA HDD, Pioneer DVR-109 and Asus A8N-SLI with AMD64-3200+ S939? Help anyone, I'm about to pull my hair out! I checked the forum but coudn't find anything that would'he worked. And I only have a dialup connection so downloading the DVD image is out of the question. |

If you've a spare IDE hard drive that you could temporarily hook up, then disable SATA in BIOS, then try to install 64bit SuSE, that will tell you one way or another if you have an SATA driver problem.

Unfortunately I don't have a spare HDD. I found somewhere that disabling some hardware in BIOS may help. Could anyone please tell me what to do, I've never touched BIOS and I'm affraid I can damage something. What "buttons" should I press? Thank you.
