Default KNetworkManager

Hello, there.

After a lot of trouble with a WLAN connection to my desktop, which
keeps telling me I was just in the offline mode, I came to the
conclusion I needed the (K)NetworkManager to get an interface I missed
so far: A window which shows me the WLAN signals around, so that I
could connect myself to the signal of my router.

The SuSE manual was of the same opinion as it seems to me, so I looked
up the installed packages in YaST, found that the KNetworkManager was
installed and called it up in the command line. But nothing happened.

Can someone tell me if I forgot something or why the programm wouldn't
start? With extended options I could see that a konsole window was
opened as I tried to start the KNetworkManager, but it stayed empty.
What I expected was a list of WLAN signals as it is shown in the SuSE
manual.

SW: SuSE Linux 10.3
HW: USB WLAN stick with RT73 chipset, driver installed

With best regards, Martin
