Default Unable to Connect Wireless

I am unable to connect to the internet using the wireless card. It will
work with a network cable. Any Ideas? Thanks

Hi
You need to be a little more specific with the hardware details, have
no idea what a HP DV1000 has for the wireless card

Have a read here, to get some of the details. Also look at the link
about ndiswrapper at the end.

Have you installed the firmware? I don't think it comes with the openSUSE
distro. You can check http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/ for info.

The driver that comes with 2.6.22, the kernel that openSUSE 10.3 uses, should
be OK.

Look at the output of dmesg to find any other problems.

When you post a question regarding some particular piece of hardware, always
include the portion of the output of 'lspci -n' if it is attached to the
internal busses of the computer, or 'lsusb -n' if it is a USB device. That
output is usually sufficient to describe the make, model and version of the
device.

Intel 2200 comes with 10.3. Should be no problem. Search in YAST for 2200.

What I have came up with is since the card is installed I am guessing
that it is not coming on(light on the notebook). This particular model
has what are called quick keys by HP that control sound, Wifi and there
QuickPlay function. Does HP have drivers for Linux based programs? and
Thanks everyone for the help so far.

Possibly along these lines, is the physical switch for wireless (mine
has a physical switch... in fact all of them I've ever seen have
physical switches) on? I have a dv6748us and the switch is this tiny
thing on the front that changes between orange and blue (off and on).
On my Dell it's on the side and has no color at all, though there is a
status indicator on top that has 'WiFi' on it so you can see when it's
enabled, more or less.

Good luck.

Mine has the same thing. The switch will not work(works in windows). Any
Ideas? Is there some way to bypass this?

The switch is a hardware switch as I recall, or at least on mine the
software doesn't do anything based on it except completely stop working
if I flip it. I suppose it's possible other implementations behave
differently but a hardware switch makes the most sense for security
reasons like these are meant to address.

Good luck.

In kernels 2.6.24 and later, the switch information is processed and passed
to the drivers, at least for some hardware. When I push my switch off on my
Broadcom hardware, the blue light turns red, a message is passed to the
driver, and the radio is turned off. It will work that way with openSUSE
11.0, but not for 10.3 unless you upgrade the kernel.
