Default SuSE 9.3 Netatalk and Samba

Hello,
we have updated a well running Linux SuSE 9.1 to the 9.3 version
(necessary because of changing a controller, he works fine no).
The update shows "successful done" at the end, but now we have 2
problems in our system with PCs, old Mac G4 OS9.2.2, new G5 OS x and
the Linux 9.3 as Fileserver.

1. netatalk:The system and the controller starts well and the
rcatalk status shows afpd: OK and atalkd: OK (papd: No process we
don't want to print, timelord: No process)

If we restart the service again we get the message:

Starting afpd (-U uams_guest.so -g nobody -c 10 -n Server-3)
done

On the old 9.1 all worked well with this parameters.

But now on 9.3 we cannot connect from the Mac OS9.2.2 to the Linux
Server.

The Mac shows the Linux Server named Server-3 in the Appletalk but
cannot connect.

Here is the configurations of our Linux netatalk:

APPLEVOLUMES.DEFAULT
/TESTFOLDER "TESTFOLDER" ~mswindows,codepage:maccode.iso8859-1

AFPD.CONF
"Server-3" -uamlist uams_guest.so
-loginmesg "Welcome Guest!"

ATALKD.CONF
eth1 -phase 2 -net 0-65534 -addr 65280.245

NETATALK.CONF
AFPD__MAX_CLIENTS=10
ATALK_NAME='echo $(HOSTNAME) | cut -d. -f1'
AFPD_UAMLIST="-U uams_guest.so"
AFPD_GUEST=nobody
ATALKD_RUN=yes
AFPD_RUN=yes
PAPD_RUN=no
TIMELORD_RUN=no
ATALK_BGROUND=no

The netatalk version is 2.0.1

2. The mac with OSx use the samba mode.
But the speed to get some data is 10 times slower then on SuSE 9.1.
Netcard, cables, switches, is always the same.

Perhaps somebody has an idea to solve our two problems
Many thanks.

these suse versions are so old, I don't know if anybody here remember
the settings... I don't :-(

are you so short of ram to be unable to use 10.3?? (better with 250Mb,
but should work with 128)

The problem is not the RAM but an adaptec controller RAID 1420SA.
There is no driver for 10.2 or 10.3 only for 9.3
