Default nsswitch.conf

Hi,
I add a IP-Address and hostname into the /etc/hosts. but the
/etc/nsswitch.conf (hosts:files dns) did not work fine. The request way
is to the DNS-Server and not to the /etc/hosts. The way must be
/etc/hosts -> DNS.
Whats wrong? Thanks

I'm not sure we understand your question, kurvengott. Are you saying that
you added an entry to /etc/hosts, but when you try 'host $hostname' it
doesn't work?

I add a host named test-sp and 172.17.17.99 in the /etc/hosts. If I try
nslookup test-sp or nslookup 172.17.17.99 , I could see, that the
DNS-server is responsing and not the local host /etc/hosts.

DNS tools, like nslookup, use DNS... they don't use nsswitch.conf
sources.
