I try to install anew printer but I cannot log into cups
(http:://localhost:631). I tried as root and root password and it is always rejected, even though I can use it to log into YAST or into she shell with the su - command. What is going on? Last time I tried to do this was many years ago with RedHat8 and I had no problems. Has anything changed there? Why can I not log in as root? Uli |

AFAIK, cups has its own user/password db. Use the lppasswd for each user you want to be able to manipulate the printers. -- Alvin |

Thanks Alvin this solved that login problem although I am still not able
to print yet even though according to CUPS and lpc status on command line everything is OK. I have contacted Brother for support. On the bright side the scanning works straight away. uli |
