Since alot of people can not seem to figure out how to install brother
printers here is a HOWTO.. get your rpm for your printer here: http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/ download the LPR print driver, and install it first. then download CUPS Print driver ( you might have to install some dependencies first - tcsh found on the suse disk) after this goto yast printer modules it will say updating cup when it starts and your printer should be fully configured afterwards. you can now install your scanner drivers ( if you have one) also if you have a fax on the printer you can install those driver too starting with the LPR one first.. then the cups one Using your brother printer VIA a network if you have a built in network adaptor on your brother printer; and you wish to print directly to the printer via a network. goto yast printer module; click ADD > print directly to network printer> NEXT > ( for the host name of print server - put in the IP address of the printer- in this case you have to give your printer a static IP- See in the brother manual how to give the printer a static IP) NEXT> (give the printer a name) NEXT> ( choose your model of printer under the brother listing-) NEXT> NEXT> FINISH>>> OK To access the card reader on your brother printer via the network. to access the card reader slots by typing ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ( the ip of the brother printer) in your url bar of your browser ( only works if the usb is not connect or the card reader slot is not blinking it blinks when trying to locate the computer connected to the USB) Faxing from your computer via the brother fax.. Due to a little bug in suse or the drivers it does not quite work the way it suppose to in suse. but can be made to work quite easily.. via the usb or network - first set up your cups network or usb fax printers through yast print modules... now when you want to fax directly from your program to brother printer, goto print click the advance options (Options>>) now change the print system currently used to: Print through an external program ; now add this print command line: brpcfax -P FAX_Network -o Paper=A4 -P stands for the printers name in my case it is FAX_Network now when you press print a dialer will come up and you can enter your phone number if only using the USB connection you should get away with only brpcfax in the command line Direct network scanning unfortunately not supported yet otherwise this would be the perfect linux printer but work well via USB.. but it can be still done via the network some what -- insert a memory card into the card reader and tell the brother printer to scan to card then just access via ftp ( as mentioned above) hopefully that enough info to get the most functionality out of you brother printer... |
