Default I can't print a thing....

I have Suse 10 and a HP Photosmart 1215 parallel printer that I have hooked
up. The problem is that I cannot setup the printer. Konquerer won't let me
setup the printer and print any test pages, because apparently SUSE doesn't
have a root user. WHY? I do not know. So, how do I setup my printer?!?!?
Whenever I try to use konquerer to setup my printer, and print a test page
or anything, it'll ask me for user login and password, and only the root
can write to it, but SUSE has no root... So what do I use?

SusE should have asked you for a root password when you installed it. It
sounds as if it is booting you straight into user. You can get to root
by going to the green SuSe button and starting a new session.
Alternatively, press Alt+Control+(any function key from F1 to F6) and
log in as root in text mode.

That said, I was unable to get the system to recognise the printer and
judging by the number of posts on the subject, there may be a problem
with this version of SuSE - after several installations I gave up and
reinstalled SuSe 9.3 which works without any problems, apart from the
long time for updates to be downloaded.

The release notes for 10.0 says that you may have to reboot after setting up
certain parallel port printers in YaST. I had to do that get my hp laserjet
1200 going.

Ok. I kind of figured it out now. But still no printing... I went to Yast
and setup my printer, everything loaded up ok, drivers were there and
printer was detected and installed. Then I went and configured it. After
that I print a test page, and it just hangs... What do I do?

Thanks! I tried those steps and redid a couple of things, and restarted.
And it works now.
