A friend asked my to set up a Linux server with an AVM Fritz
PCI DSL/ISDN card. The card is listed by lspci as "Multimedia controller TriMedia TM-1300" but openSUSE 10.3 does not detect it. The AVM homepage lists only a SUSE 9.3 driver and supplementary information for non-SUSE distributions, which seems to imply that nothing is needed for later SUSE releases. OTOH, in the openSUSE hardware compatibility list I can't even find an appropriate category for that card, let alone an entry for the card itself. Should this work out of the box? If not, what's missing? Thanks for any hints, Tilman -- Tilman Schmidt E-Mail: tilman@imap.cc Bonn, Germany - In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is. |

It's called just "FRITZ!Card DSL" without any addition, and it's a PCI card with two RJ-45 connectors, one for DSL and one for ISDN. A newer version, "FRITZ!Card DSL v2.0", puts both interfaces on a single RJ-45 connector which you have then to split up again with a proprietary Y-cable. I guess that's called progress. Both are no longer produced which may be the reason you couldn't find it, but AVM still has a support page for them at http://www.avm.de/de/Service/Service...estartenneu=ok That's where I found the SuSE 9.3 driver (link "FRITZ!Card DSL CAPI Driver Version 03.11.07 vom 7.7.2005 (Linux)") and the instructions for non-SuSE Linuces. The "FRITZ!Card DSL USB" is something completely different (no Python pun intended). It's not a card at all, but an external box. I never understood why they named it so confusingly. Tilman,
personally I think DSL hardware problems can be easily avoided by buying a cheap DSL router... Is this any help? http://opensuse.foehr-it.de/ Uwe -- Novell Support Connection Volunteer SysOp Please don't send me support related e-mail unless I ask you to do so. |

Well, the SuSE box in question is supposed to *be* the DSL router when it's done ... > Is this any help? > http://opensuse.foehr-it.de/ That certainly looks promising. I'll try that (not today, I'm too tired now) and report back. Thanks, Tilman -- Tilman Schmidt E-Mail: tilman@imap.cc Bonn, Germany - In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. Ok, first round failed - I had done a 64 bit install (should have known better) and the (closed source) AVM drivers are 32 bit only. Reinstalling 32 bit now, be back. -- Tilman Schmidt E-Mail: tilman@imap.cc Bonn, Germany - In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is. |
