Default 2nd IP

Hi all.

I don't have a GUI and the YAST text version doesn't work too well on my
emulator.

Could someone tell me the correct way to create an alias eth0:0 under SuSe
10.1 please? Also, what effect will this have on my firewall protection?
Since the SuseFirewall is keyed to the mac address I assume I am still
secure...

Thanks.

Mike

Hi Mike,

you can use both the command ifconfig and ip. For instance:

ip a add 192.168.0.1/24 brd + dev eth0:0

Alias interfaces are ignored by SuSEfirewall. So you are still secure.

Jan
