Default AirLink101 Wireless card Woes

I first tried to setup a DLink DWA-552 wireless card only to find
experimental drivers. I then took some advice and bought an inexpensive
wireless card. I am having trouble finding drivers for it as well. The
details are as follows:

OS: SuSE 10.1
Card Manufacturer: Airlink101 802.11g/b
Model Number: AWLH3026T
Chipset: RaLink RT2561

YaST will not detect this card. It shows up as RaLink "Unknown" in both
the lspci and hwinfo commands. I just need to get a wireless connection
working. I am just having the worst luck in finding something in the
stores that plays nice with Linux. Can anybody help me get this working,
or tell me where I van find a PCI wireless card that does work??

OK, I got the driver from where you suggested. I compiled and installed
it. SuSE now recognizes the interface as ra0. However, I am unable to
configure it. YaST will not recognize the card. I can only see it with
the iwconfig and ifconfig commands. I can bring it up and down. I can
see that it is communicating with the access point. I can assign an
ESSID. I cannot get it to use the dhcp from my access point. When I try
to assign an IP address manually, the machine freezes.

I am now at a loss. I made a mistake in the configuration somewhere. I
have no idea where. Red Hat and Ubuntu forums show similar problems
without resolution. But it is obvious that some people are using this
card successfully. Now I need to find out how to do it. Can anybody help
me with the configuration???

Ron,

sorry, not me. I'd need the same environment to try it myself. I suggest you contact the vendor.

AirLink 101 does not provide Linux support. I told them of my
dissatisfaction with this as politically correct as I could. I sent an
e-mail to RaLink technical support. I'll let you know what they say. I
just wish I could find a list somewhere of card manufacturers and model
numbers that I could take to the store with me. Most of what I've seen
are old cards that are no longer in stores.

With the Airlink card in the computer, what does the output of 'lspci -v' and 'lspci -n' for the
corresponding buss show?

A good place to start for compatible hardware is http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/.

I don't know what else to tell you. I've looked at the sources for
wireless cards listed in these posts. However, they are all old models no
longer available in stores. So, I'm a little at a loss. I'd appreciate
any help that I can get.

Thanks.
