Silly networking issue:
All other devices on network can ssh / have server Proxy access to squid on / etc My own laptop receives following message when using putty to access server: Network error: Connection refused. Have checked / disabled / edited / exorcised the firewall -> no change Have done the same for all putty, etc ... only on this one XP workstation. However can ping. |

Have you disabled the firewall ON THE LAPTOP? Have you done start run cmd telnet 'ip address of server' 22 |
